Only at Green Box Arts Festival can attendees sit and discuss the world of musical composition with two celebrated musical artists. At this ArtDesk Conversation, featuring the celebrated Timothy Takach and Deborah Teske, hear about their experiences and work in music that spans decades.
Composer Timothy Takach is known for his melodic lines and rich, intriguing harmonies and has received commissions from dozens of organizations over the span of his career. Reviewed as “gorgeous” (Washington Post) and “stunning” (Lawrence Journal-World), the music of Timothy C. Takach has risen fast in the concert world. Applauded for his melodic lines and rich, intriguing harmonies, Takach has received commissions from the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, St. Olaf Band, Cantus, Pavia Winds, Lorelei Ensemble, VocalEssence, the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, The Rose Ensemble, and numerous other organizations. His compositions have been performed on A Prairie Home Companion, The Boston Pops holiday tour, multiple All-State and festival programs and at venues such as the Library of Congress, Kennedy Center and Royal Opera House Muscat. He is a co-creator of the theatrical production of All is Calm: the Christmas Truce of 1914, by Peter Rothstein.
Takach studied music composition at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, where he graduated with honors. He has frequent national work as a composer-in-residence, presenter, clinician and lecturer. He is a full-time composer and lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two sons.
Deborah Jenkins Teske has dedicated her career to leading several organizations, such as being the founder and artistic director of Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble, Artistic Director for the Colorado Springs Chorale, and she also conducts the Colorado College Choir and Chamber Chorus. Her lifelong connections to choral music in the Pikes Peak Region has helped build a career based on a deep commitment to choral singing as an essential part of any strong and vital arts community. Through her work with choirs of all ages, she has gained a reputation for creative programming and for excellence in performance.
Teske is founder and artistic director of the Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble, a nationally acclaimed chamber choir of 26-30 voices. While primarily focused on a cappella repertoire, CVAE embraces opportunities for exploration of other musical genres and artistic disciplines. Recent collaborators include the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, The Denver Brass, Ormao Dance Company, and the Colorado Youth Ballet.
