artist in residency program

Frequently asked questions

Q: Who is welcome to apply for this artist in residency program?  What artistic mediums or disciplines do you look for in an applicant?

A: We invite artists from all disciplines, at any point in their career to apply. We occasionally will have calls for specific disciplines, which will be noted in the application instructions.

Q: I’m having trouble uploading attachments with my application. What should I do?

A: Please contact Slideroom support regarding issues uploading attachments to your application by following this link:  https://help.liaisonedu.com/SlideRoom_Applicant_Help_Center

Q: What kinds of materials can I submit as part of my portfolio? How long can my materials be? Are there any limits on materials?

A:  Whatever showcases your work best and helps to define the work that you are interested in pursuing as part of a Green Box residency.  We limit the number of “uploads” to 5.  We recommend uploading attachments as multi-page PDF’s.

Q: I’ve just submitted my application! When will I hear if I am selected?

A: All applicants will be notified regarding the status of your application within 2 months of the application window closing.

Q: I’ve submitted my application in Slideroom. How can I upload any further documents after the fact?

A:  Once you have submitted your application, we will not accept additional documents.

Q: I’m applying as a duo (or more) – do we both need to fill out an application?

A:  No.  If you are applying as a duo, trio, or larger ensemble, only fill out one application for the entire team.

Q: How long is a residency? Is there any flexibility in the usual timeline?

A: Residencies are generally 30 days. Flexibility is subject to availability and capacity of Green Box staff, housing, and venues. Our preference is a consecutive residency, though we may consider two, two week periods on a case-by-case basis.

Q: If selected, can I bring anyone with me to my residency at Green Box?

A: While we are open to exploring accommodations for caretakers and artist-parents, our resources often do not allow us to consider additional guests at the time of the residency.  It is easier for us to consider a weekend visit with family members as opposed to family members or partners being in residence with the artist for the entire month.  Pets, except for certified service animals, are not allowed in our residency housing.

Q: What are the studio spaces available for artists like? (Dimensions, capabilities, access to any resources).

A:  If/when your application moves to semi-finalist status we will confirm potential needs and resources available via a phone/zoom conversation.

Q: Will Green Box provide all materials I require for my medium?

A: While Green Box may have some materials available for use, it is the responsibility of the artist to provide, or purchase required materials. On a case-by-case basis, Green Box will consider purchasing materials if they can be utilized by Green Box in the future.
