Indigo Dyeing Workshop with Blue Hands Art
Wednesday, July 8, 10AM-1PM
Studio 4 – Green Box Workshop
Step into the deep, luminous world of indigo and let color reveal its quiet magic. This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the ancient dye and playful art of shibori, where simple folding, binding, and clamping techniques transform ordinary fabric into rich, one-of-a-kind patterns. You’ll be guided through quick, easy-to-learn shibori methods and then dye your pieces directly in our working indigo vats—watching as striking blues emerge before your eyes. Participants are welcome to bring small items to dye—including t-shirts, bandanas, napkins, tea towels, or washcloths. *Please note the size limit: nothing larger than a t-shirt due to vat capacity. All materials must be natural fibers; cotton and linen yield the most reliable, vibrant results. Blends or synthetic fabrics will not take indigo and are not recommended.
Blue Hands Art is an indigo dyeing event organized by the Blue Hands Art Collective, a group of artists dedicated to educating others and preserving the tradition of indigo dyeing. Our mission is to make the creative process of dyeing with indigo accessible.
